This past Second Saturdays the nature center got twiggy with it as we celebrated pinecones! Pinecones are fun centerpieces that we all love to have during the winter season, but they’re also an important part of conifer reproduction! Visitors to the center learned the difference between male and female pinecones- yup, that’s right! Pinecones come in male and female. Male pinecones hold pollen and female pinecones hold the seeds. We also discussed shape, size, and how edible they are!
Pinecone wind chimes were the craft of the day and visitors got to take home their festive creations!
If you missed this past event, don’t worry! There’s plenty more coming up. Every 2nd Saturday of the month the nature center hosts the Second Saturdays program. Check out our EVENTS page for future events.
